Animal Name: Campion
IAR ID#: D-10-032
DOB: 2007-02-10 (3 year old)
Gender: Male
Animal Weight: 59 lbs.
Dog Breed(s): Boxer Mix
Physical Description: Orangey, short hair; floppy ears; white teeth with underbite; muscular.
Animal Personality: Campion is sweet, affectionate, gentle, playful, and housebroken. He loves walks and romping with other dogs. Ideally Campion would live with a dog near his weight because he's solid and strong, and likes to wrestle. Campion very much wants to please. He likes to have a bath, and he knows how to sit, give his paw, move over on the couch, stay, and wait (well, mostly). Needs a lot of exercise, ideally would have access to a large fenced yard during the day. Although he loves playing outside, Campion was previously chained and forced to stay outside all day, so he understandably likes to be inside a good bit as well. He's very tender: One day he heard a woman on TV who was crying, ran over to the set, and tilted his head from side to side, staring at the TV. When he gets very excited (especially when he sees the woman who rescued him), he jumps up on all fours like he's on a trampoline or stands on his hind legs and pumps his front legs.

Animal History: Chained his whole life until Feb. 10, 2010. Chain sometimes twisted so only 5 feet available. Neglected. Water not always available. Feces often not picked up. Very large doghouse but not enough warmth in winter, no shade for summer. He's terrified of thunder and fireworks, and his house was about a mile from the Durham Bulls Park, where fireworks are set off on a regular basis.
Health Information: Up-to-date on vaccines; no heartworm.
Special: IAR views behavioral training as a critical aspect of helping our dogs adjust to their new homes. Jane Marshall of Cheery Dogs LLC donates behavioral support to help many of our dogs adjust to their foster homes, and all IAR dog adoptions come with a certificate good for a series of training classes with our training partner, Sunny Acres Pet Resort in Durham, NC.
Did You Know: Declawing cats can lead to a permanent refusal to use the litter box.
