Animal Name: Kimbo
IAR ID#: D-13-010
DOB: 2011-10-03 (1 year old)
Gender: Male
Animal Weight: 60 lbs.
Dog Breed(s): Pit Bull Terrier / Rottweiler Mix
Physical Description: A nice-looking jumble of Pitweiler dog parts: a handsome face with floppy ears, mounted on a cinderblock head; a long, sturdy body; paint-tipped tail. All mounted on the strong short legs of a beagle or some such dog who answered the wrong personals ad. A double-coat that's smooth (but not soft) and that doesn't shed too much.
Animal Personality: This dog loves company. People, dogs... the more the better. At the dog park, he's happily middle of the pack -- ready to chase, ready to be chased. Looooves the dog park. Loves playing with other dogs, chasing balls, and getting scritches from all the other owners. Will hop up and down and give you the biggest smile EVER if you open the car door and look his way to let him know it's playtime. Loyal, attentive, often playful, often calm (especially for an 18-month-old). At home, he's happy to spend most of his day chilling out on the couch-he's-allowed-on or else on the rug next to my desk. He's delighted when anyone will join him for snuggles on the animal couch. Definitely trainable: has learned "sit", "down" and "stay" with some success. Working on "drop it" and "off". Knows not to get on furniture other than the "animal couch", or into the litter box room. "He wants to please" said an experienced dog-friend who kept Kimbo for a few days. Wants desperately to play with the cat, but the cat just hisses and smacks him in the face with her declawed paws. While he's never bitten a cat at home (or while visiting others), he does chase after cats that run, so we advise not placing him in a household with cats.

Animal History: Kimbo became homeless last year but was taken in by someone who knew he was great and wanted to keep him out of the shelter. Kimbo grew up in a multi-person, multi-dog home and he'll be perfect in an active household.
Health Information: Excellent health. Up to date on all shots. When he came to IAR, he had some modest problems with tight leg muscles and range of motion, but they were resolved after a couple of months of stretching exercises and regular trips to the dog park, his Favorite Place on Earth.
Special: When you adopt from IAR, you will receive a certificate for a substantial discount on a series of group training lessons with Jane Marshall (www.cheerydogs.com) or Sue McKinney (www.dogfunforever.com). IAR subsidizes these training sessions to encouruage a life-long and successful bond between the dog and the adopter. The trainers are also donating a portion of their services.
Did You Know: Cats are living longer than they used to, nearly twice as long as they did in 1930.
